Example calculations – Regular enlistments

A soldier who was serving on a regular enlistment, usually men who had enlisted pre-war, were entitled to receive both the service gratuity and the war gratuity due to their enlistment terms.

Unfortunately the soldiers effects registers do not record the service gratuity paid but it is important to know that the war gratuity was paid without any deduction for the service gratuity when estimating enlistment.
